In early 2023, Lynn found herself in a frustrating situation with a window replacement project gone wrong. After exploring various contractors, she decided to go with New Horizon Home Improvement for her window replacement project. Unfortunately, what seemed like a straightforward decision quickly turned into a nightmare. Here’s Lynn’s journey and how Yankee Home stepped in to help her find peace of mind.
“I previously worked with a different home improvement company who promised new windows in early 2023. That company frauded me for $10,000 and never completed the work. The folks at Yankee Home helped me tremendously by working with me once I figured everything out with the previous home improvement company. Once I was ready to move forward with Yankee Home, the windows arrived earlier than anticipated and were installed in only a couple of hours. Yankee Home was fast, affordable and efficient! I can not recommend Yankee Home enough for all they have done to help get my new windows.”
Lynn initially contacted Yankee Home to get a quote on a window replacement in her home. After shopping around, she chose New Horizon Home Improvement. Lynn made a small down payment of $100 and signed a loan agreement for approximately $10,000, thinking her window replacement project was well on its way.
As weeks turned into months, Lynn heard nothing from New Horizon Home Improvement. She tried reaching out, but her calls went unanswered, and her voicemails were never returned. To make matters worse, she started receiving letters from Mosaic, the loan company, demanding her first loan payment, even though no work had been completed.
With the quote from Yankee Home about to expire, Client Concierge Rik, decided to check in with Lynn. During their conversation, Lynn shared her predicament: she had signed with another contractor but couldn’t get in touch with New Horizon, and she was now receiving payment demands for work that was never done. Rik immediately alerted Yankee Home founder, Ger Ronan, who is known for his passion for helping homeowners in stressful situations like this.
Ger took Lynn’s case personally. He reached out to her to discuss her situation in detail. He sat down with her in her kitchen where she explained everything that had transpired with New Horizon and how she had yet to see any work done in her home. Ger then called Mosaic with Lynn, to clarify the situation. The representative mentioned that New Horizon had submitted a completion form, claiming the work was finished. Ger disputed this, stating there were no windows installed, as he was looking at an old window right in front of him in her home. He secured a promise from Mosaic to investigate and potentially forgive Lynn’s loan.
After submitting all necessary paperwork, Lynn’s loan was quickly forgiven, sparing her from further financial stress. But the story didn’t end there. Ger decided to visit New Horizon’s former headquarters, only to find it abandoned with a “For Lease” sign and subcontractors waiting in their trucks, hoping for payment for work they had previously completed for them. This was a stark reminder of the unfortunate reality of some contractors behaving badly.
With Lynn’s loan issue resolved, Ger offered to complete her window replacement project at a discounted rate. She decided to work with Yankee Home to replace a large picture window in her living room, and multiple double hung windows throughout her home. By November 2023, Lynn’s new windows were installed, bringing her home multiple benefits including:
